Instead, the game uses data from OpenStreetMap, allowing you to start playing virtually anywhere on Earth – whether it’s a small village or a major metropolis.
It is these real-world maps that are one of the greatest strengths of Infection Free Zone. Familiar streets, bridges, parks, and landmarks become the arena for a fight for survival. You can set up a base near your home, workplace, or any location you know well, and knowledge of the terrain often proves just as valuable as your stockpiled supplies.
Rebuild civilization your way
Infection Free Zone combines elements of strategy, city rebuilding, and base management. After the collapse of civilization, you lead a group of survivors whose mission is to create a safe zone and gradually rebuild the world.
The game offers a great deal of freedom. You decide where to build your base, which buildings to repurpose, and how your settlement will grow. Build shelters, farms, workshops, and extensive fortification systems. Every playthrough can be different, and how your zone develops depends entirely on your strategy.
Exploration, combat and management
Survival requires a constant search for resources. Throughout the day, you send survivors on expeditions to find food, medicine, weapons, and building materials, exploring abandoned buildings full of valuable items – but also deadly dangers.
Once night falls, the situation changes dramatically. Hordes of infected attack your zone, so well-planned fortifications, trained defenders, and proper resource management determine whether the residents will live to see another day.
However, the game world isn’t inhabited solely by the infected. Along the way, you’ll also encounter other survivors – some will want to trade and cooperate, while others will do anything to take your resources.
Open-world gameplay with a story-driven backdrop
Although Infection Free Zone offers a great deal of freedom and lets you develop your base exactly as you wish, it isn’t purely a sandbox game. The gameplay has been enriched with story elements, events, and an evolving narrative that provide additional context for your decisions and guide you through a world ravaged by the mysterious “The Mad Virus” epidemic.
This allows you to both focus on building a perfectly functioning settlement and uncover new elements of the story as you try to answer the question of whether humanity still has a chance to rebuild its civilization.
