After years of speculation, CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed the development of a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The expansion, titled “Songs of the Past,” will be the game’s third major DLC and is set to release on PC and next-generation consoles.
CD Projekt RED is leading the project in collaboration with Fool’s Theory, a studio that includes former developers of The Witcher 3. According to the announcement, the expansion will feature a brand-new story for Geralt of Rivia and new regions to explore.
The Return of Geralt of Rivia
The developers haven’t revealed any plot details yet, but they emphasize that The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is intended to be a full-fledged expansion, not just a small content pack. The studio has announced new quests, monsters, characters, and extensive storylines.
New minimum hardware requirements
With the release of the update and DLC, the minimum system requirements for The Witcher 3 on PC will change.

The developers have announced that the game will require an SSD and DirectX 12. This means that support for older setups using HDDs and some older operating systems will be discontinued.
The studio attributes these changes to its desire to further develop the game technologically and adapt it to the new features introduced in the latest expansion.
The developers have noted that the game will not be tested on older systems, so it is possible that the new version will run on Windows 10, for example. Additionally, users with older systems will still be able to revert to an older version of the game.
