lve has released a major update for Counter-Strike 2. The key features of the September patch are the new Rush mode, a revamped map selection system in Premier mode, and a range of changes affecting day-to-day gameplay.
Players have also been given new options for customising their crosshairs, silent weapon reloading, clan tags – which have returned to the game – C4 bomb stickers, and fixes to several maps. The update also brought an unusual surprise – the chicken and egg system, which Valve did not mention in the official changelog.
Rush – a new 3v3 mode in Counter-Strike 2
The biggest new feature in this update is Rush mode, a fast-paced 3-on-3 game mode.
Players battle it out across a series of battle arenas and try to fight their way towards the enemy’s castle. The arenas are chosen at random in each match, meaning that no two matches are necessarily the same.

The key element is the tower. To win a round, a team must be in control of it when the opposing team is eliminated or when the time runs out.
This means that simply eliminating all rivals is not always enough. You also need to capture and hold the right position.
Valve emphasises that Rush is intended to be a fast-paced mode in which teams move through a series of arenas, battling for the chance to reach the enemy’s castle. The mode also features a leaderboard for friends, allowing players to compare their achievements.
A Premier version with a completely revamped selection of maps
The Premier mode has also undergone a major change. Valve has decided to move away from the previous map-banning system in favour of a pick system.
The new process is as follows:
- Team 1 chooses one map.
- Team 2 chooses two maps.
- Team 1 chooses the final map.
- One of the four selected maps is chosen at random, and the match begins on that map.
In practice, therefore, both teams suggest the maps they would like to play on, rather than successively eliminating the arenas they do not want.

Silent reloading of a weapon
One of the most significant changes – or perhaps the most significant one of all – is the ability to reload a weapon silently.
Simply hold down the reload button. The weapon will be reloaded without the characteristic sound, but the whole process will take longer. This may be particularly important in situations where an opponent is nearby and the sound of reloading could give away the player’s position.
Valve has also changed the behaviour of sniper rifles. Looking away from the scope no longer makes a sound.
Chickens as pets
And it is precisely with the chickens that one of the most unusual stories linked to this update begins.
Shortly after the update, players began to discover eggs appearing in the weekly drops. However, Valve did not mention the egg system or the pets in the official update notes. Information on how they work therefore currently comes mainly from players’ observations and analysis of the game’s content.
According to the information currently available, a chicken goes through the following stages of development in sequence: egg, chick and adult chicken.
The game also features various types of chickens, including several breeds and dozens of different appearances. However, not all the details of the system have been officially confirmed by Valve.
Overhaul of the targeting system
Tights have become resolution-independent, and a new tab for tight settings has been added to the settings menu. In addition, new tight styles have been added and the default tight has been changed.
